UNTIL PURCHASE | |
MITSUBISHI Lancer Evolution has too small cargo space with an expensive price for my family use, but its Wagon version came to Japanese market in September, 2005, with limitations of the period until December, 2005 and numbers of 2,500. It has 2 grades; GT and GT-A. GT has a MIVEC engine with 280 ps and 6MT, and GT-A has a normal engine with 272 ps and 5AT. I would prefer GT, of course. I tried GT in Chofu, Tokyo, and could check its drivability even in the traffic jam, which can be thought the same as Lancer Evo. IX I had tried. For the price, when I asked the sales, "You would give me some discount if I ordered it in September, right?" "I would do my best if I were in charge of you.", said the sales. The quotation came to me from Mr. S who is my sales. I found in it that Mr. S was very serious to sell it to me, comparing the quote given from another dealer. More negotiation would be necessary, but the highest barrier for me was the Minister of Finance at home. The response was not so bad when the Dino-MAMA saw the catalogue. "It looks cool from its front", said she. "Looks quite the same as Cedia from the back, though", said she, too. I managed to convince her to go for negotiation with Mr. S anyway. We tried GT-A. The response of the engine through the AT was not good as I had expected. The Sport Mode of the AT could shift more smooth than my expectation, maybe because of 5-speed that is one more speed than Cedia's. Differences from the MIVEC engine could not be felt then. "A little shaky (uncomfortable)", said T-Dino. "Bad view from the back seat", "No pockets on the back of the front seats", "Quite the same space as Cedia", said MAMA. The RECAROs of the front seats were not popular for them, but they were OK. She agreed to purchase it, with the following requirements. Replace the navigator's seat sometime.
FYI, about 20k yen /year as the additional payment for the option insurance have been confirmed. It would be about 60k yen /year if it was Evo. Sedan.
EXTERIOR | |
The front looks Evo. IX, and the rear looks like Cedia Wagon, except the powerful blister fenders holding the 235-spec tires. According to the catalogue, the wide-opened wagon body has been reinforced to keep "Evolution"'s running. Though the roof is made of steel that is different from Evo. IX, the hood and front fenders made of aluminum have been taken over from Evo. IX. The spoiler at the edge of the roof is bigger than the one of Cedia Wagon. More showy one has been released by RALLIART in the market. The diffuser is equipped under the rear bumper like Evo. IX. You can see the red Brembo calipers through the 17-inch aluminum wheels. It does not look so showy except the front. I can agree if you say, "what is different from Cedia Wagon?", I prefer it, though.
INTERIOR | |
Mainly about differences from Cedia Wagon. The instrument panel almost looks like Cedia Wagon's, only except the tachometer put at the center. I would prefer I could feel a "special car" from it. The RECAROs that their support parts are smaller than Evo. IX are better for the driver, though the passengers in the rear seats may feel pressure. It is good if you try to adjust the slant of the RECARO as you just want, but you can also say it is inconvenient you cannot so easily make the RECARO flat if you have to wait for your passengers' coming back to your car at the parking slot of a supermarket. You can find several other parts made with lower cost; no sunglasses holder, the smaller elbow holder without a compartment, the floor rid without folding and grip at the cargo space, the foam polystyrene tray under the cargo floor that had been made of hard plastic, etc. The compartments that had been at the both sides of the cargo room can be put nothing because there are tanks for power steering oil (left) and washer (right) (see the left two pictures below). The capacity of the cargo room including the floor-under-tray is lower than Cedia Wagon because of the bigger overhangs at the both sides for the rear suspensions and more shallow under-tray (see the right two pictures below). It can, however, covince you as a station wagon's.
